José Antonio Kast, of the Republican Party, won Chile’s presidential runoff on 14 December 2025 with about 58.6% of the vote, against 41.4% for ruling-coalition candidate Jeannette Jara, according to the count by the Electoral Service (Servel). Jara had led in the first round on 16 November.

Kast, who took office on 11 March 2026, centered his campaign on security and migration control.

The campaign was marked by manipulated content circulating on social media, which forced Chilean fact-checking platforms to step up their work in the weeks before the vote.
