Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif died on 10 August 2025 in an Israeli strike on a journalists’ tent next to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City. Several of his network colleagues died in the same strike.

The Israeli military acknowledged targeting al-Sharif and accused him of leading a Hamas cell. Al Jazeera rejected the accusation, and the Committee to Protect Journalists, which had already warned weeks earlier of a smear campaign against him, said Israel had not provided credible evidence.

Al-Sharif was one of the best-known faces of coverage from northern Gaza. His death added to more than a hundred media workers killed in the Strip since October 2023, in a territory where the international press still had no independent access.
