Five journalists killed in an Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis
An Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killed around twenty people on 25 August 2025, including five journalists working for international media, among them contributors to Reuters, The Associated Press and Al Jazeera. A second strike hit those who arrived after the first, including medics and reporters.
Israel’s prime minister called it a “tragic accident” and the military announced an investigation. The affected agencies demanded answers and the UN called for an independent inquiry.
Press organizations recalled that international humanitarian law protects journalists as civilians, and that repeated strikes on places where press gather amount to a pattern requiring accountability.
