Velours condemns the armed assault on TC Televisión and stands with its staff

The International Journalism Club Velours condemns the armed assault suffered on 9 January by the TC Televisión team in Guayaquil, held at gunpoint during a live broadcast.

We stand in solidarity with the station’s staff and their families. What happened is not merely an attack on a media outlet: it is a message aimed at all journalism that investigates organized crime.

We call on the authorities for a full investigation that identifies not only those who carried out the attack, but those who ordered it, and for the adoption of effective protection protocols for newsrooms and journalists at risk.

No newsroom should ever become a hostage. Reporting should not require extraordinary courage; it should be a protected professional act.
